Jim Sevy has been recording music since he was 6 years old. He started running a Viking Reel to Reel recorder at concerts, using 2 vintage Shure microphones. He then upgraded to multitrack capabilities in 1976 when he purchased a Teac 3440 4 track reel to reel. He recorded a few albums for groups in the Caldwell Idaho area. At BYU he took a Theater and Studio sound class and had his first exposure to a “real” studio with a 2” 3M 16 track tape machine and a recording console that came from the “Sonny and Cher” TV show. His efforts in that class resulted in a job offer.
While playing in RENZONTZ in the late 80’s he and the band purhased an Akai 1214 12 track multi-track recorder. He set it up the the basement of MusiCare and recorded with the group. Then took that and other gear and set up a studio in American Fork, UT while working at WordPerfect and Novell.
After recently becoming and “empty nester” he commenced building a studio in the basement of his home, with the help of his wife and kids. They helped create the sound treatments and motivate me to get everything setup and connected.
He has been collecting recording gear and experience for the last 45 years. He has been building computers since the late 70’s and has been using them with recording since the late 80’s.
Jim is also a musician and has played electric bass with several groups in the area. He toured the US and Canada with the BYU Young Ambassadors and Ricks College Showtime groups and has played lead roles in many community theater musical productions such as; Annie, Jane Eyre – The Musical, Paint Your Wagon, Beauty & the Beast and Fiddler on the Roof.
He has been workind in the family business on and off since 1978 and continues in the repair of all types of guitars, musical electronics, and computers. Jim is also the owner of iNetshops, a company that develops and hosts websites.
